In 1994, the company incorporated a U.S. subsidiary, Buron, Inc., for the purpose of entering the assisted living market. After a lengthy period of studying the industry and consulting with various experts, Buron’s president, Howard Addison, came away with a clear vision of what senior living should and should not be. He had no desire to build another “old folks home.” Even the concept of a “facility” was too clinical for what he envisioned, which was a homelike community of engaged seniors and compassionate caregivers. A place where all residents, no matter what their age or ailment, would live a happy and fulfilling life. Where families would visit. Pets would be welcome. And friends would be made. It would be a place to live, and live well.

Today, Highgate Senior Living is a recognized thought leader and innovator in an industry that has enjoyed substantial growth over the past twenty-plus years. Expanding and looking toward the future
